Grandview Boys Basketball Two Wins Away from State Title After 62-58 Win Over Arvada West

The Grandview boys basketball team is heading to the CHSAA state championship after a dramatic 62-58 comeback win over the Arvada West Wildcats on Tuesday, March 3. Arvada West (22-3) controlled most of the game and held a 57-51 lead with under three minutes remaining, but Grandview (18-7) closed the game on an 11-1 run to shock the Wildcats.

Senior Sevy sparked the comeback, scoring a layup to cut the deficit to 58-57 with just under a minute remaining. After an Arvada West miss, Grandview pushed the ball in transition, where Sevy converted a breakaway layup while being fouled with 39.7 seconds left. He completed the play to give the Wolves a 60-58 lead. Sevy was fouled again with 11 seconds remaining and got both free throws to expand the lead to 62-58, the Wolves’ largest lead of the game.

Arvada West senior Noah Meurer, who finished with a game-high 22 points, missed a final three-pointer on the Wildcats’ last possession. Sevy punctuated the win with a dunk after the buzzer sounded.

Grandview will face Rock Canyon in the CHSAA state championship game at 10:15 a.m. tomorrow (March 6) at the Denver Coliseum, and students are encouraged to wear white and show their support. GO WOLVES!
