The Grandview Hockey team returns with a slippery start. On the 21st of November,  they were defeated by Ralston Valley [8-2], while slowly getting used to their new coach’s ways.

“I think the whole team has to adapt, because every coach has their own play style they want to play,”  Linkin Alisasis (12) said.  “And certain teams aren’t ingrained with that, so I think the hardest part is just to mold into the way the coach wants you to play.”

In the past 4 years, the Grandview Hockey team has been introduced to 3 different coaches.

“It’s definitely taught me a lot about who is the actual right fit for this program,” team captain Hunter Simons (12) said.  “And who will lead these kids and teach these kids so many more new things.”

While the coaches bring obstacles, such as a  shift in style of play, along with them; in contrast, the players meet in the middle with the new coach by moving forward from their old.

“I think losing [our previous] coach Josh Schaffer was a big hit because he had a lot of influence in Colorado for hockey,” Alisasis said.
”And now we just have to adjust to a new coach.”

However, support for the new coach, Mitchel McPherson is still strong among the team. The captain, Simons, shows his support for the new coach through honesty, communication, and leadership.

“I’m always willing to reach out to my coach- text them, call them- if I ever need anything, and just give my concerns, if I feel like there’s anything wrong or needs to be happening,” Simons said.

Keeping a sensible goal in front of them, players look to achieve as many victories as possible, while adjusting to the new conditions.

“The thing I want out of this team is just from everyone to grow more as an individual, as a person, as a player and just become more determined,” Simons said. “I’d just love to see all our players grow more and more and become better and become better people.”
