A recent change has surprised Grandview as the mural near the spirit booth in the upper commons has recently disappeared. There are new plans to replace the art work of the old mural with a new piece created by students and staff and the help of Mrs. Lujan.
“There is a display case going in there that’s going to be kind of attached to the wall, and that’s going to be a display case for the school store,” Lujan said. “And then we’re working with the National Art Honor Society and they are going to design a graphic or a mural that’s going to go around that.”
With plans for the new installment which will cover the wall already being put in motion, the New piece will be getting installed as soon as all the details are finalized.
“We’re hoping by the end of the year [it will be done], but it kind of depends,” Lujan said. “We need the case first, and then The National Honor Art Society has to decide what it’s gonna look like, and then it’s up to them to decide how long it’s gonna take to install. I don’t know if it’s gonna be painted on or a print. That’s up to the art honor society students.”
If you read the plaque which is the last standing remnant of the mural, the Mural was dedicated to the class of 2004 and was meant to show the courageousness that each Grandview student carries with them.
“Julie Inman’s mural depicts proud, poised and powerful wolves in a pack.” The plaque says. “The wolf travels and learns leaving no wolves, no matter how small or large, thus the wolf demonstrates true unity.”
With the plaque carrying such a strong message that is meant to represent Grandview attendees, it may come as a surprise that they are covering it up, and whether the cover-up for the mural was really necessary is still up for debate.
“As the sunrise of the Mural represents a new beginning is always on the horizon.” The plaque says.
