What made you wanna start playing flag football, and how long have you been playing for?
I wanted to start playing flag football because I think it is one of the most fun sports I’ve ever played. I have two brothers and to see their love of football made me want to try it. I have been playing for two years now.
What was your reaction when you made it on varsity?Â
When I made it on varsity I was really happy that I could play at a standard that my coaches believed I could [compete] at. I never expected to be on varsity as a freshman and to have that opportunity was just a real blessing.
How does it feel to play against older players as a freshman?
[It] is hard I will admit. They have so much more experience than me since this is my first year playing for the school. It really is a great feeling when you can play as well as them, especially because of the age gap.
What goes through your head right before a game?
It’s usually just a lot of anxiety because they can be very nerve racking- I hate making mistakes during one. But my teammates really do help me relieve any stress before a game.
How has the team helped you grow since the season started?Â
The team has helped me grow since the season started by just believing in me every time I play and giving me such good feedback so that I can become a better safety. The bond that me and the team have is unbreakable and to know they have my back has made me grow and become a better athlete.
What is one game or play that really stood out to you?Â
One game that stood out to me the most is the game against Creek. As everyone knows that’s our rival and to beat them was such a big goal for us. This game stood out to me because you never can expect a team to be as good as they think they are. We expected this team to be a big challenge and to be able to beat them 33-7 was honestly such a surprise but it speaks to ou talent.
How do you prepare mentally before a big game?
I always pray. If anyone can make you achieve something it will always be Jesus. He always held my hand during any fear that I had before a game and always relieves my stress.
Who or what inspires you the most when you’re out on the field?
My teammate Brooke Sullivan. I met Brooke at the beginning of the season and she really has become one of my best friends. She is one of the best safety’s I’ve ever met and to see that she can make such big impacts in games based on her defense made me inspired to do the same.
What are your goals beyond this season- on and off the field?
To continue to get better at football and putting in work that I can show on the field. Another goal I have is to just continue with my good grades in my classes so I can be able to attend college one day.
