Athlete of the Week – JT Sus (11/15)
What’s your favorite food?
My favorite food is probably gonna have to be grilled cheese. Bread and cheese, not much more to say about it. It’s a good combo.
If you could have any car, what would it be?
A red Chevy Camaro, [that’s] my dream car. I don’t know why, just really find it to be a good car.
If you could have lunch with anyone, who would it be?
If I could have lunch with anyone, it would probably be Megan Fox.
Do you have any favorite teammates?
I love all my teammates. It’s hard to pin out a single person I would consider my favorite cause were just such a connected group of guys. I don’t see them as friends, honestly, I see them more as family.
Why did you choose soccer as the sport to play?
Ever since I was a little kid, I’ve always had a fascination with it. I honestly couldn’t tell you why. I just enjoy the game to be honest.
What is one thing you like about soccer?
One thing I like about soccer is that feeling when the ball goes in the back of the net and you look, you got your teammates surrounding you, you got fans cheering. Just that feeling of scoring a goal honestly.
What was your best moment while playing soccer?
Honestly, I know it’s gonna sound super cliche, but that Legacy moment has gotta be a true highlight of my soccer career so far. On that stage and everything, it’s definitely one of the biggest soccer moments of my life.
How long have you been playing soccer?
Honestly, since I can remember. Maybe age two or three, I’ve been around the house with foam balls ever since I can remember.
What is your routine when you are preparing for a game?
I always take a pre-game shower. It’s something I’ve always done for the past 5 years. Nice hot shower. Might sound a bit cliche for some people, but I always do a quick prayer. I pray for the health of me and my teammates when we are out there. And for just a good game. I have this peppermint ointment that I rub on the bottom of my nose. It gets me hyped up. It’s not like super crazy but, you know. Shower, prayer, and a little bit of almost smelling sauce.
Do you have any go-to moves while dribbling?
You can look at my highlights, I’m not a guy for the fancy moves. Just a quick touch around the guy, try to beat him and that’s what I try to do.
How did you feel when you scored that goal at the game against Legacy?
I was in shock. In awe. I looked up and the ball was in the back of the net. Not even myself could believe it. It was just a wonderful feeling and I just still at this very moment in shock about it happening.
How did you react to going to the State Championship?
We’re all confident. You can look in that locker room. Not a single guy, including myself, has doubt. No Nervousness. We’re gonna go out there and play our game like we’ve been doing all year, and we’re going to bring home boys’ first ever state title to Grandview.
What was your most embarrassing moment while playing?
During my freshman year. We were on JV, and my most embarrassing moment is I was thrown on goal, it was a breakaway, we were already three or 4-0 but I couldn’t see the nice goal and I tried to be too fancy and I absolutely just whiffed the ball, not even the slightest of contact. Went to the sideline, Coach looked at me. We had a laugh about it later but in the moment, I was like, “How could I be so dumb?.”
Have you ever had a big injury?
I have dislocated my right knee cap four times. I dislocated it my freshman year on JV, which was unfortunate, but it recovered pretty well. This year, I had a concussion against Overland, which wasn’t that serious, but it still was unfortunate, and that’s about the major ones that have come via soccer.
