With finals coming up and New Year’s around the corner, New Year’s resolutions are on many student’s minds. I interviewed a sample of the Grandview student population to determine the top ten goals students want to work toward in 2025:

Improve Grades

Improving grades was the most popular, as 21% of students at Grandview have said they need to improve their grades. I think it’s a great goal to work towards because improving grades can open doors to better colleges and job opportunities. Achieving higher grades can boost your self-confidence and sense of accomplishment.

Be A Better Person

Being a better person reaches 16%. It is an interesting goal, but it takes a mature person to realize they need to improve themselves. By practicing kindness, gratitude, and active listening you can improve your quality of life and have a sense of fulfillment.

Make More Money

Make more money was 14% of the students at Grandview goals. The old saying “money buys happiness” seems to still hold truth at Grandview. In high school, money allows you to go out with friends, buy food, and purchase your first car. Money gives you freedom and independence.

Eat Healthier

Eating healthier was also 14% of the grandviews student population’s choice. It boosts your energy, and focus, and helps with school and sports, while also supporting body goals like maintaining a healthy weight and building muscle. With junk food being so prevalent, making healthier choices helps avoid the negative effects of processed foods.

Play More/Get Better At Sports

9% of students said that they wanted to play or get better at their respective sports. I personally agree with this goal because I need to play more sports and get better at the ones that I already play. Getting better at sports increases confidence, lets you be a part of a team, and is good for future aspirations.

Work Out More

5%  of students at Grandview feel the need to work out more consistently. Being physically active and healthy is important for everyone. You can reach your body goals, which boosts confidence.

Be Less Addicted To Phones

5% of high schoolers want to be less addicted to their phones. High schoolers are very addicted to their phones these days, and it can impact grades and productivity. I find it hard to get stuff done sometimes when I want to be on my phone. Trying to limit your screen time is a great way to focus on other things and improve real-life relationships.

Be Humble

Nowadays, high school students have pretty big egos. Being humble is a great goal to work towards next year. 4% of high schoolers said they want to be more humble towards the new year. It helps you stay open to learning and growth and builds strong relationships – as it builds deep respect and trust.

Make More Friends

Making new friends can enhance your well-being, and open up new opportunities. 3% of Grandview students said they want to make more friends. You can make new friends by joining clubs, attending events, and volunteering to meet like-minded people. But, keep in mind that having one or two really great friends is enough.

“Quality is better than quantity” – Lucius Annaeus Seneca, Roman Philosopher.

Spend More Time With Loved Ones

2% of high schoolers want to spend more time with loved ones. It strengthens your relationships, provides emotional support, and reduces stress. I think this goal is a great one to have for 2025 since many students will be leaving in the next four years. Seeing your loved ones more often can create more of a happy and fulfilling year overall.
