"It was June 21, 2018, when I started [an Instagram dance account] off a whim. I knew there were coverists out there, and it was kinda cool cause I learn so many dances myself--and then it started getting momentum I’ve used dance as part of exercise and a stress reliever from school, so I would say on a busy night I dance for 20 minutes. I like filming tutorials early in the morning, so I wake up at 2 or 3 in the morning, watch a new music video, and then prep and edit before school. Learning and filming a cover probably takes me an hour or an hour and a half, but most of the time I do tutorials with it too so then filing the tutorial and editing the video can take up to 4-5 hours. My YouTube channel, it didn’t really pick up momentum, until my junior year, when I was doing transformations with face masks and diets and what not--and then it really took off when I started my dancing thing. It’s also fun to respond to comments. It’s cool that I’m talking to people from Brazil or Turkey, not just people from the United States.
But I’m not cutting anything down in my school life. I’m still in a bunch of clubs, and I’m taking 5 AP classes: AP Lit., AP Gov., AP Calc. BC, AP Physics, and AP Psych. Oh, and I play varsity tennis for the school as well.
It’s pretty busy, but I make it work. People are like, “why would you do that?” And I don’t know, it’s thrilling for me. Dancing is a fun thing for me to do, and I don’t feel like it’s a job -- it’s a natural, genuine fun.
I definitely felt pressure before, but I think I’ve found my niche of not stressing out anymore. I think if you don’t stress about it, you don’t feel stressed about it -- you just do it and have fun."
