Every day here at Grandview, the average student can see many instances of terrible parking in the lot when they go in and out of the building. Despite this, there was never really a platform that acknowledged these said moments.

Until now.

Starting in November of last year, @grandviewparkingviolations, also known as GHS Can’t Park, has reached over 900 followers, gaining much recognition amongst fellow students at our school. The account showcases many instances of hilariously bad attempts at parking from students, staff, and even police officers.

I decided to catch up with the founder of the account to get his/her’s thoughts on the page’s recent popularity.

Q: Did you ever think this account would be this popular around school?

A: No actually. I didn’t think people would find it as funny as I did. I’m glad I can have a laugh with everyone at our school’s bad parking.

Q: Did you get any inspiration from Grandview Confessions?

A: Not really. I don’t think I could ever live up to Grandview Confessions. Their account was started my freshman year and it’s crazy to think it was that long ago. If my account reminds people of them, then that’s amazing.

Q: Why did you want to start this account?

A: I saw these kinds of [bad parking] accounts trending all over [in other schools]. I thought they were hilarious and I saw no one made one for Grandview yet so I made it myself.

Q: Do you have any plans on revealing your identity?

A: I’m still unsure. I don’t think it matters who I am. I don’t want to make it about me, I want people to focus on the account. But I can’t blame people for being curious. Maybe after graduation, I’ll reveal who I am.

Q: Do you think people’s terrible parking has to do with the structure of the parking lot? If not, can you name any other reason why?

A: I don’t believe so, there’s nothing wrong with the structure of it. I think some people just need to work on parking. But if there is something causing people to park bad then I’d like to know about it.

Q: Do you currently drive? If so, have you had any problems with parking in the school lot?

A: I do drive. Personally, I’ve never had a problem with parking. However, I think the school should really put ice melt down before it snows. I’ve had to come to school early for practice for my sport and they never put any down. Not only would it help people see parking spaces, but it would also be safer for many drivers in the parking lot.

Q: What is the future of this account?

A: Right now, I have something planned for 1000 followers. I’m super excited to show everyone. Also, I’m currently a senior. If people still want to keep this account running, I’ll probably give it away to a current junior.
