Laila Raines (10th) runs for miles, doing harsh conditioning on the field, praying for it to be over, knowing deep down it will help her later. Grandview Girls’ preseason is on.
“We’ve been running around the school and doing different intervals like sprints. It’s to get us in shape for season,” Raines said.
In addition to conditioning, the team has participated in indoor games. Despite some losses during their indoor sessions, they continue to persevere and improve, making the team even stronger.
“We’ve won some, we’ve lost some, so it’s been good,” Brian Wood, Varsity Soccer coach, said.
Grandview High School’s girls’ soccer team has harsh rivals and has been training hard in order to win. Their excitement and team spirit are always evident as they face off against their opponents.
“I definitely like the Creek or Rock Canyon game because it’s very intense. Playing against rivals is nerve racking,” Wood said.

Although the team has achieved many wins, there are still areas for improvement. They are working on multiple things including better communication and overall playing better as a team.
“I think we need to work on more communication with each other and just talk to each other during games,” Raines said.
Even though they have issues going on with their gameplay, they still manage to have some friendship off the field.
“I’m definitely most excited for like just hanging out with the team,” Raines said
Additionally, with the possibility of new players joining, it can bring a good new team dynamic – which is important for the team’s growth.
“I’m excited to see all the new players and who I could be playing with on varsity this year,” Senior Gaby Hansen, varsity player, said.
With tryouts and playoffs coming up, Grandview Girls’ soccer team has been working hard to sharpen their gameplay and boost their teamwork. It will be needed for the upcoming season filled with intense games and excited crowds.
“I just love the culture and everybody in it, I’m excited for the upcoming season,” Hansen said.
