2024 Election Rollercoaster

2024 Election Rollercoaster

The 2024 election season has been a rollercoaster and has gone down as one of the craziest and wildest elections in American history;

With a nation being more divided than ever before, One president dropping out even though he vowed to stay in the election, 2 assassination attempts on a runner, world tensions through the roof, new orders, and national guard being deployed.

Since mid 2024 unrest has risen about the presidential election, dividing the country even further. But as of Wednesday, Trump won the election in a super close neck to neck race. Harris received 226 electoral college votes, with Trump receiving 312, making him president elect since only 270 are needed to win.

Each runner had a slogan that gained a lot of attention with Trump’s being “You’re fired, Kamala!” And Harris’ being “When we fight, we win!” Both slogans carried them until the end of the elections.

On July 13th, 2024,Trump was hosting an election campaign in Butler, Pennsylvania, when a 20 year old man named Matthew Crooks opened fire at the former president. 8 shots were fired before the secret service returned fire and killed the shooter. Trump was shot in the right ear but was deemed “fine” by doctors at the Brattleboro Memorial Hospital and was later discharged, but Corey Comperatore from Sarver, Pennsylvania, was fatally struck by one of the rounds. He died while shielding his wife and kids. Corey was a former fire chief for the Buffalo Township Volunteer Fire Department, he was 50 years old. Seven others were injured, 3 being directly shot or grazed, with 4 police officers being lightly wounded from debris when bullets struck objects. Crooks took the shot from only 200 meters away perched up on a roof. This shooting raised speculations about how safe the former president was.

Kamala Harris never really asked to be thrown into the mess of the election, but she was endorsed by the Democratic National Convention, making her the first female of Indian and Jamaican descent to run for president. She received support from many celebrities such as Talyor Swift who encouraged her fans to vote for her, Megan Thee Stallion, Eminem, and the list continues. Many of these celebrities showed up at her rallies with the most popular being the one in Atlanta, Georgia, on july 30th, 2024, Kamala’s rally turned into a concert for a fair share of time; but many people criticized her decision to hold “mini concerts” at her political rallies but that didn’t stop her from continuing her new approach at rallying followers.

In Feasterville-Trevose, Pennsylvania, Trump was the first former President to work a whole shift at McDonalds, with hundreds of people lining up in the drive-thru lane trying to meet the former president. Word that Trump worked a shift at Mcdonalds made international news and became a massive online meme.

Kamala Harris’ policies mainly focused on cutting taxes on middle class families and redesigning America’s foreign policy. She also wanted to make sure the American working class grows and becomes “Richer”. Trump was big on handing the power back to the states. For example, handing education back along with handing abortion rights to be decided by the states, along with mass deportations and economic policies while focusing on ending wars in Europe and the Middle East by proposing different plans to strive for international peace.

Shortly before the election, Donald Trump was charged with 34 different felonies including a possible hush money case. He was eventually found guilty for all of the charges and was seen in 4 different criminal cases, in which he was charged 454 million dollars before it was reduced to 175 million dollars. Now that Trump has been elected these charges will most probably be dropped completely.

To sum up the 2024 presidential election which was an emotional turmoil for many, Trump won the election over Harris which will make him the 47th president of the United States, with his inauguration on January 6th 2025.
